Once again, York University’s PhD in Human Resources Management program collaborated with Sobey PhD Management, St Mary’s University, to host its second annual doctoral consortium. Building on the success of last year, this year’s consortium brought together the activities and support of four doctoral programs including YorkUniversity’s School of Human Resource Management, Athabasca, Eastern Finland and Sobey.
Like last year, the focus of this consortium was on the students. Through a series of carefully crafted sessions and workshops, students were able to exchange ideas and learn from both faculty and each other. We were delighted to have David L. Levy from UMASS Boston as our Keynote Speaker who has made an important and timely contribution to the issue of organization and environmentalism.
Along with Professor Steve McKenna, this year’s PhD student group from York University comprised of Amanda Peticca-Harris and Nadia deGama. Both Amanda and Nadia were provided with the opportunity to present their research in a series of student presentations, which encouraged plenty of discussion both during and outside of the sessions. They also helped facilitate a workshop along with Professor Steve McKenna on “alternative” ethics in HRM.
Things are already developing with respect to the third consortium scheduled to take place next summer. With participants from schools in Canada and Finland, this would make it a truly international doctoral consortium.
